“I had the opportunity to study at Danila Kumar at the very impressionable age of ten. Looking back, nearly 15 years hence, I think that experience gave me the cultural sensitiveness I call one of my chief traits today. We studied in a class that was almost like a United Nations. We played, we fought, we threw snowballs and paperballs at each other.

But we also were perhaps immensely close to each other. In fact after many years, we got back together online. We were surprised to know how easily those years just came running back. At once, we were children again, teasing each other about our crushes, our strengths and shortcomings.

Our teachers were remarkable. I still remember how we would fool around Mrs Irina Sikirica’s class, much to her annoyment; Mrs Ljubica Zornik who taught us Science and Humanities and took us around the charming city of Ljubljana with its museums and history; Mrs Nevenka Vomer and her exasperation at failing to make us come to school on time. To those teachers I owe my lessons of life and my achievements since.

Someday, I hope to return to Ljubljana for a day. Take bus number 8 from Brod to Jezica and walk to Danila Kumar, reliving my history.”
